What is Neighborhood Watch?
Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most effective crime prevention programs in the country, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer.
Sponsored by the National Sheriffs' Association, Neightborhood Watch can trace its roots back to the days of colonial settlements, when night watchmen patrolled the streets. The modern version of Neighborhood Watch was developed in response to requests from sheriffs and police chiefs who were looking for a crime prevention program that would involve citizens and address an increasing number of burglaries.
Launched in 1972, Neighborhood Watch counts on citizens to organize themselves and work with law enforcement to keep a trained eye and ear on their communities. Neighborhood Watch works because it reduces opportunities for crime to occur.
Wright Farms Neighborhood Watch
The Wright Farms Neighborhood Watch was created in the spring of 2015 in response to neighbors' concerns about possible crime in our community. Neighbors attended an informational meeting to hear from Wilson County Sheriff representatives. While our neighborhood is considered a safe one, it was clear that more could be done to encourage neighbors to get to know one another and to become more aware of what is happening within our community.
The Wright Farms Neighborhood Wath will host regular community meetings to help residents get to know one another and decide upon program strategies and activities. The Neighborhood Watch will also participate in the annual Night Out Against Crime by hosting an event for our community.
The success of our Neighborhood Watch is dependent upon the participation of our residents. If we are willing to work together to act as the eyes and ears for law enforcement, we will help reduce crime and the potential for crime in our community.

Block Captains
Block Captains are volunteers from each street in our community. Block Captains are tasked with:
- getting to know the residents on their streets
- maintaining an emergency contact list so that neighbors can be notified about any suspicious activities or crime reported in our community. The contact list includes phone numbers and email addresses of neighbors, as well as any voluntarily shared information that can be given to first responders in the event of any emergency. This information is not shared with anyone besides the Block Captains.
- encouraging neighbors to report any suspicious activity to the Wilson County Sheriff. Neighbors are asked to contact their Block Captain after reporting crime/suspicious activity to the Sheriff so this information can quickly be shared with other neighbors.
- notifying neighbors of any suspicious or criminal activity that has been reported to the Sheriff's office.
